Willis, Texas is set to growing rapidly as several major residential projects take shape. The latest addition, Enclave at Willis, will bring 300 new single-family homes behind Walgreens off 1097 and the Kroger on Interstate 45. Project manager Ibrahim Dursun shared at an August 15 city council meeting that families are expected to move into the community within 18 months. Although still in the early stages, this development will become the third largest residential project in Willis, following Moran Ranch and The Woodlands Hills.
Currently, Willis has a population of nearly 9,000, but that number is expected to rise with 19 new building permits issued for residential developments. Moran Ranch, a 500-acre property, plans to introduce about 600 homes, while The Woodlands Hills aims for 4,500 homes, with additional community amenities including parks, hike and bike trails, and open spaces.
Willis is increasingly appealing to Houston-area workers seeking suburban living, thanks to its excellent schools, natural beauty, and proximity to recreational spots like Lake Conroe and the Sam Houston National Forest. Recent commercial developments, like The Market at Willis, which opened in 2022, further boost the area’s economy with increased sales tax revenue. More infrastructure improvements, including water and sewer upgrades, are in progress, with officials hoping to add hotels to support future growth.
